One of the quickest and easiest ways to spice up your sex life: Do the deed somewhere other than your bed. But who says you need to be confined to the four walls of your home?
We’re not suggesting you get too crazy—we don’t want to be responsible for any indecent exposure incidents—but you might as well take a walk on the wild side while the weather’s still relatively warm. Here’s how you can have sex outdoors (or, well, in a semi-public place) without worrying too much about getting caught.
1. The Backyard:
If you’re new to outdoor sex, it’s best to stay close to home, says sex therapist Kat Van Kirk, author of The Married Sex Solution. And your backyard is the perfect not-too-public place to test the waters: Find an area your neighbors can’t see (next to a privacy fence or some shrubbery), spread out a blanket, and go for it. You can play around with clothing and positions for future less-private endeavors, and if you feel shy at any time, you can always duck into the garage. (sex advice)
2. Your Car:
It’s not technically outdoors, but having sex in your car is one of the easiest ways to get closer to nature without having to actually be in nature. (Plus, it’s a totally sexy throwback to the days when you had to be creative because you couldn’t just have sex in your bedroom.) The biggest thing to keep in mind for successful car sex is location—you might be tempted to park in a big, empty lot, but that’s actually a terrible idea. “Most parking lots have attendants whose job is literally to just walk around and make sure people are not having sex in cars,” Van Kirk says. “If you’re the only car in the lot, that’s going to look sketchy.”
Also, no sex while driving, please.
3. The Ocean:
Water is incredibly sexy, and it provides an excellent cover for any NSFW activities. But instead of heading to the pool (which is probably brimming with all sorts of not-so-sexy chemicals and bacteria) take a dip in the ocean: The swells will disguise what you’re really doing, and the water will give you enough leverage for some creative positions, Van Kirk says. Just make sure you’re aware of your surroundings—the last thing you want is for your sexy rendezvous to be interrupted by sharp rocks or a riptide.
4. At a Music Festival:
If you’re looking for a more exhibitionist outdoor venue, an adults-only outdoor party—such as a music festival—is your best bet. Many music festivals have campgrounds, and sex in a tent is practically sex outdoors. “It obviously depends on what level of privacy you’re okay with,” Van Kirk says. If you are planning on getting down, Van Kirk suggests not getting high: “You want to be on top of your judgment when you’re that vulnerable in public. Don’t be wasted.”
5. Do Not Attempt: A Public Park:
Don’t have sex in a public park unless you want to get arrested, Van Kirk warns. Parks are both family-oriented and notorious for being hotbeds of illegal activity, which means they’re patrolled basically 24/7.
